Meeting of April 7, 2003
Board of Directors MeetingAlgonquin Regional High School
The meeting began at 7:15 p.m.
Board Members Present: Bob Kody, Mike Proctor, John Courtney, Don Miller, Len Spencer, Joan Clowes, Janine Colleran, Mike Turpin, Darrell Lemmerman, Ian Wallace, and Kim Miller.
Board Members Absent: Angela Rose and Brian Lanciault.
Minutes: The March minutes were reviewed. Mike Turpin motioned to accept. Len Spencer seconded. All in favor.
Secretary’s Report: Kim Miller provided an update on the Northboro Special Olympics Unified team.
League Updates
Assabet: Janine distributed all the Assabet books to the coaches. Janine stated that the bill for playing in the Assabet league was sent to Brian. She will follow up with Brian to make sure it was received and paid.
Janine reviewed the total numbers for upper levels, U10-U18. Movement of players in U12B was discussed.
Nashoba: Darrell stated that all missed Nashoba games due to weather and field conditions will be treated as TBA’s to be scheduled by the coaches.
Bob discussed the division of responsibilities per board position based on the by-laws. Bob requested that all board members review their responsibilities and it will be discussed at the next meeting if any changes need to be made.
Darrell reported that he is still in the process of making some changes to rosters.
Treasurer’s Report: No report given.
Registrar’s Report: John Courtney reviewed the numbers for U6, U7 and U8. John stated that all age group coordinators are set. John discussed the Jamboree date and ideas. John also stated that the date for Spirit Day will be set when we establish set dates for fall 2003 registration. This is dictated by try out dates which will be established by Don Miller in the near future.
Coach Coordinator’s Report: Bob reported for Angela that the coach’s clinics scheduled for outdoors were not run due to rain. They have been rescheduled for April 12th for the U12 and U14 coaches. No new date has been set for the U8 and U10 coaches.
Travel Team Coordinator’s Report: Don reviewed the coaching applications for 2003-2004 teams. Don discussed standardizing tryouts for each age group and the games played can be altered per age group. Don reviewed the suggested process and stated that there will be evaluators, coordinators, and a clean up crew.
Don discussed upgrading licenses for coaches and setting license guidelines for coaches in each age group.
A discussion was held regarding tryout dates. The dates will hopefully be posted in the upcoming Stormwatch. A discussion was held regarding naming the teams. It was decided that we will use MTOC, NCup and Rec. A, B, and C for the upper level teams.
Referee Coordinator’s Report: Len reviewed referee assignments by Nashoba and Northboro. Northboro is responsible for make-up game referee assignments.
Len requested that Northboro assign assistant referees to U12 and U14 recreation games. so that they can gain experience and maintain interest in refereeing. Len reviewed the cost of this to NYSA and the benefits for doing so. The board agreed unanimously to go ahead with the plan.
Field Maintenance Coordinator’s Report: Mike Proctor stated that all lower fields have been lined. Upper fields are partly done and will be finished soon. Bob requested that he, Len and Mike P. create a field map indicating how to set up each field for each age group. Mike and Len agreed to establish an instructional map to assist coaches with field set up.
Fundraiser Report: Joan reviewed a new fundraising idea. Joan suggested that NYSA offer a “starter kit” for U6 which would include cleats, shin pads, and ball. Joan will get more details to review with the board the next meeting.
Joan stated that she needed an updated NYSA mailing list for Christian Green, MLS, for the summer camps in August.
Joan stated that the Field of Dreams schedule is complete.
Bob read a note from Carol Sexton, who is resigning from the board due to conflicts with her schedule. Bob expressed gratitude for Carol’s time and efforts with NYSA.
Equipment Coordinator’s Report: Mike reported that he is all set with equipment needs. However, Mike is looking for any size 4 practice balls if anyone has extras.
Field Coordinator: Ian stated that all practices have been scheduled. The player development coach is set to start April 21st with NYSA teams. Ian will be coordinating the PDO schedule with all coaches and will be sending Christian Green, MLS coordinator, a coaches list with phone numbers.
New Business: Bob stated that we have passed two deadlines for Stormwatch. He requested again that information be sent to Mark Teehan so we can send out a spring Stormwatch.
Bob stated that Soccerfest will be put on hold for another year.
Bob emailed notices to all coaches regarding the FC PUMA/NYSA goalie clinics.
He received a good response from many NYSA coaches.
Bob reviewed the dates and costs for the spring footwork clinics to be held at the Southboro 9/11 field.
Bob spoke with Chris Santini who expressed that he wanted to continue with updating the NYSA website
Bob stated that Mike Burns, former Marlboro and Revolution players, has contacted him regarding running a free clinic for any team to introduce his camps and services.
Bob discussed the purchase of the Lincoln Street property.
John motioned to adjourn the meeting. Janine seconded. All in favor.
