Referee Coordinator Remarks
Referee Responsibilites
Welcome to NYSA as a Referee! You have responsibilities that should be taken seriously as with any job opportunity. Hopefully this one sheet will assist you with any questions you have.
Your Goal is to make the game SAFE and FUN for all the players.
Dress: Referee Shirt [Yellow or another color that is different than both teams], plain Black shorts [with no markings such as white stripes], Black socks with 3-white stripes at the top, and cleats.
Your shirt should always be tucked in and you should always look professional.
If it is cold, wear a hat and gloves and put a shirt under your referee shirt.
Equipment: Pen or pencil, Coin, Whistle, Stop Watch, and Book [contains red and yellow cards and card for recording events] and Flags [typically will be supplied by the Center Referee].
Assignments: All assignments will be given via this web site.
Log in and update your availability as needed. If you cannot make an assignment it is YOUR responsibility to notify Nick Howorth ASAP. If it is less than 48 hours, use the phone - not email ! Every effort is made to be fair with assignments which are made according to grade certification, age, availability and experience.
Check your emails and the NYSA web site [and Field Hot Line] for latest details and information.
Game Times: You should arrive 30 minutes prior to game start time.
Walk the field to make sure the condition of the field is SAFE. Check the Goals to make sure they are SECURE. Check the corner flags. If missing, Corner Flags are located on the side door of the Snack Shack. If you are the last game of the day, have the Home team Coach retrieve the corner flags and place them in FOD [Field of Dreams - Snack Shack].
Check player's equipment 10-15 minutes before start time, collect Game Card, Rosters and Game Ball from the coaches.
Food/FOD: You are able to get [for free] one meal deal from the FOD. You will be asked to show your name on roster for that day and be marked off. Please go to the front window only, the back door access is not allowed.
Pay Cards/ Score Reporting: For U8 and U10 games email Nick Howorth with Game ID information, and clearly state both Home and Away scores. For U12 - U18 you must fill out the Game Card and mail it with both team Rosters to NVYSL, address is on the card.
Payments: There will be 2 pay periods per season [Middle and End of season].
You will be reimbursed at the end of the season for classes, and receive a uniform stipend if you referee at least 3 games during the season.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. It is our hope that you will enjoy being a referee and earn money while having fun!
Have a GREAT Season !
